The Taste of Fall

We have been putting our membership to Greenfield Village to good use. We went the one of the taste of fall days. They have cooking demonstrations in many of the houses, Farmer's Market, demonstration of plowing the field as well.  The weather was amazing. Alex expecially really enjoyed checking what they were making and collecting the recipes they had out. We have many new ideas for all those apples we had. Including a pork pie that has pork on the bottom and the top half is apples. It was quite yummy, like an apple pie, but with pork in it.

I don't remember what was happening here, they look angry

decent smiles, but now Luke isn't looking, seriously

the boys spent nearly 30 minutes watching these guys

I haven't seen this for years, too much fresh air and exercise

Autumn Night at the Park

There is nothing better than a sunset on fall colored leaves.

More Apple Picking

We picked more apples on the property that Grandpa's garden is. There are four apples trees with many, many apples. We have made all sorts of dishes with apples. We have frozen crisps and apples sauce as well.

Grandpa's idea of apple picking, shake the tree and all the ripe apples fall off

no longer capable of smiling normally for some reason, thanks Luke

Random September Shots

Found a friend

harvested grandma's garden (we combined peppers from grandpa's garden and tomatoes (seen in the back) from grandma's garden to make some amazing salsa) and made gingerbread cookies

attempting to collect apples in a hat?  dad had the bag

caught up with dad and the bag (he has a habit of wandering away)

taking all the cores and peels out to the animals ( I feel bad throwing bowls of it away)
bowls are empty, animals are fed, let's eat some applesauce :)

Happy Birthday Bernadette

Later on the night of the 7th, we went to celebrate Bernadette's birthday.

Car Show at Greenfield Village

September 7th we enjoyed the afternoon looking at a lot of old cars (and breathing in a lot of exhaust) at Greenfield Village.  It threatened rain and drizzled a bit, so my camera remained safe most of he time and I didn't get a chance to take many pictures.  I think I could take pictures all day there.

Hands On

We went to the Hands On a few times this summer, but this is the first time Kris went in awhile. The boys enjoyed showing him the new "ball thing" that is much like a marble run, but with ball pit balls. I can't get a good picture as it takes up most of the room.   I realized we only have another 1 1/2 years that we are allowed in this preschool room, gasp.  Alex is still allowed as a "sibling helper".

getting close to Luke's rest time, gets some snuggles with daddy while Alex plays

circuits! they just never get old

More Farm

we went to kennsington to look at the baby pigs, it was so stinky in there I didn't even want to get a good picture

We saw a rattlesnake!  I had to hold luke back, he wanted to follow it into the bushes and was really disappointed that I didn't let him get close, we learned about poisonous snakes that day

Farm day

The day after we got back from vacation we went to Grandpa's garden to harvest some veggies and water it while he was away. The blueberry farm was down the street, so we went there to pick a bucket of blueberries to go with our veggies. Yum, I'm going to miss the local produce soon.

Rinsing off the dirt before we take them home
Kris pretending he is a farmer
lots of veggies!
looks like a blueberry forest
yum, yum
how many blueberries are in your bucket, i'm running out

It's pretty difficult to pick many blueberries with the kids. They end up eating them faster than you can pick them or get into trouble and distract you from picking them.  Kris pretty much did the picking this day.  We went once this summer without the kids to pick 10lbs for freezing.  The boys love eating frozen blueberries right out of the freezer.
